Bopagama Ella

Bopagama Ella is situated in the Kandalanda Estate in the Gampaha district. It is 4 meters high and is also known as “Alagiyawanna Ella Fall”. The meaning of the name of this fall is ”beautifully colored” as it gives out multicolored rays of light when the water reflects the greenery around it.

Aberdeen Waterfall

The 98 m tall waterfalls of Aberdeen in Nuwara Eliya District are fomed by the Kehelgamuwa, a tributary of Kelani Ganga. Aberdeen Falls, definitely among the most picturesque waterfalls of the island, are named after the nearby tea plantation, Aberdeen. Many tea plantations in Sri Lanka bear British names, Scottish toponyms in particular.

According to a typical folk belief in Sri Lanka’s highlands, Aberdeen Falls are connected with the Lakshapana Falls further south by a 5 km long tunnel. Both waterfalls carry less water, since water reservoirs and hydroelectric power stations were established in the area of the Kelani Ganga tributaries between Maskeliya and Kitulgala. However, except for extraordinarily dry periods, the Kehelgamuwa river at Aberdeen Falls does not dry out completely.

Algama Ella

Algama Ella

This 6m Algama Ella Waterfall can be viewed from close range due to a convenient nearby rocky ledge. After the fall, the flow of the water is often obscured as it flows through a narrow gap under rocks. Further downstream, a 3m-long crevasse can be found, and the water is once again hidden amongst the branches of trees, only to emerge again beneath a rock protuberance.

Came here with a packed lunch from our hotel to have a picnic. It is such a beautiful place and was very quiet while we were here. Had a lovely walk before our picnic by the waterfall, nice and romantic with the wife. Another walk after the picnic made this a pleasant few hours

Wadakada Ella

Wadakada Ella

Wadakada Falls is one of Sri Lanka’s artificial falls (the others are also located in the Kurungala District). The streams from Ginnerriya, Endagalla and Udapola meet at Wadakada village, creating the 6m fall. The flow is perennial and during the rainy season, the water level reaches the road, when hoards of people gather to bathe here. It flows between the Paraigala and Handugala Mountains and cascades in three segments.

olu ella

Olu ella

Olu Ella
5th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, nicknamed “Sri Lankan Nayagara” never runs dry even in the worst of droughts

Having its humble beginnings in Wewiyathalawa (Wewaltalawa) where the local TV station ITN has its tower erected, this is a picturesque waterfall that according to folklore has never run dry even in the most unforgiving droughts. It is said that this water fall derives its name from the resemblance it has to the white ‘Olu flower’.
